The rising number of bars offering craft beer to enthusiasts has already led to creation of apps such as Untappd, which helps fans find the best place to find a unique brew. Now the Pretentious Beer Company has created the Dual Beer Glass, a receptacle designed especially for a drink known as a ‘half and half’.

Although many bars simply mix the drink – which consists of a 1:1 ratio of two different beers – in a single glass, inventor Matthew Cummings claims that the best way to enjoy the flavors of both beers is to keep them separate. The Dual Beer Glass features a separator in the middle of the glass, allowing each side to be filled individually. Only when the user takes a sip do the two beers mix together. According to Cummings, “a wonderful secondary benefit to this glass is that you can smell the bouquet of both beers simultaneously, where normally you only smell the beer that settles on top”. The glass also serves as a unique talking point.

Although currently sold out, consumers can purchase the handmade glass for home use for CAD 36.96, and it’s easy to see how craft beer bars could attract attention from aficionados by offering the glass for those who like drinking half and halfs. Are there other ways to cater for niche tastes in the food and drink industry?
