Sydney-based Todae offers businesses practical advice for cutting down energy and water usage and reducing their environmental impact.
For AUD 399, a Todae consultant will come to an office or store and check everything from recycling to heating and cooling systems. The business is then provided with a detailed report that explains how to cut costs and go green. Todae's service is geared to small to medium businesses looking to save money, be less harmful to the environment and create a "strong environmental brand ethos" amongst customers and staff.
It's an excellent concept, and Springwise believes many consumers would also be interested in environmental assessments. Plenty of people would like to diminish their negative impact on the earth, but aren't sure exactly what to do about it. Or are too lazy or busy or both ;-) Having an environmental expert come to the door and give a home a full check-up would definitely help. Besides compiling a checklist of very specific issues to improve, 'home greeners' could of course offer to implement the necessary changes, too. So, set it up, brand it well (how about eco badges for homes?), and start knocking on doors. Before you know it, you'll be running your own franchise.
P.S. Todae also sells a wide variety of eco products for homes and businesses, both through their website and from a recently opened shop in Sydney's Glebe district.

there is a similar service in dallas called "the energy store" and for 750 USD they do an energy audit of your house and spot all the places where efficiencies can be increased and then the costs associated with that - so for instance they may find that your windows and doors need better sealing and that it would cost xx dollars but that the efficiency would save you xx dollars - they also look at lighting, electrical appliances, more efficient ways of cooling and heating etc. sounds similar to todae.
Excellent idea!
If companies like these would team up with local/regional/national utilities for joint marketing, this concept might take off big time.
Another Australian spotting, courtesy of Paul Zuvela: a Perth-based company is also undertaking eco-assessments for homes and businesses – see http://www.ecosmart.net.au.
As the effect of global warming are becoming more and more obvious, the awareness among the ordinarily people will increase as well thus creating new market needs. One can expect more similar businesses popping up addressing energy consumption and environment protection issues.
I think that the global warming consequences will bring serious challenges but as well new business opportunities.
I got inspired by an article at http://www.business-idea.com/ShowPosting.asp?ID=2168

A brand new site and growing.
This idea of home energy assessment is to be part of a home buyers information pack due to come into force in the UK on the 1st June 2007.It will be compulsary to have your house assessed prior to selling on the open market. There will be fines for anybody selling a house without this assessment.Another money spinner for the goverment, but who will police it?.
These guys (http://www.energymatters.com.au) also have some pretty cool solar and renewable energy stuff ... they also have a free site inspections for solar installations.
How does the eco assessment for companies differ from implementing the ISO 14001 or EMAS (eco-management and audit scheme) standard? Can anybody explain the difference between them?
