Fashion app to recommend and locate trending items

Fashion & Beauty

Snapette is a new location-based fashion app enabling users to “share and discover the hottest shoes and bags” from anywhere in the world.

Similar to the concept of Foodspotting — the mobile app that allows food fans to share and recommend recipes, dishes, restaurants and bars — Snapette is a new location-based fashion app enabling users to “share and discover the hottest shoes and bags” from anywhere in the world. Creators Sarah Paiji and Jinhee Ahn Kim were inspired to create Snapette when, while window shopping, they realized there was no way to know whether a shop’s products were recommended by other women, in the same way crowd-sourced restaurant reviews and photos are available. They launched the free iOS app via the 500 Startups accelerator program, to make it easier to discover and locate new and trending fashion items. Users take photos of their favorite bags, shoes and accessories and post them to Snapette, along with comments and where they found them. Users can then search by brand, store, description and by what’s new, near or trending, as well as comment on photos, share tips and recommendations. Each user has a “virtual closet” on their profile page that displays photos of items they’ve posted, like and want, with the option share posts on Facebook and Tumblr. Snapette has also partnered with boutiques in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and London, and provides an exclusive view of these stores’ product offerings, under the a separate section on the app titled “Collections”. With shoppers turning to peers and review sites for inspiration and guidance on purchase decisions, is this one for emerging fashion brands to partner with to maximize exposure with an already-engaged market?
