For the shelving part of simplicity, it can even be simplier. Last April I presented a shelving system at Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan named 'A+B' which is just a 2 ingredients system that you can expend endlessly, with just gravity as glue to hold it together. It actually takes the idea of ease one step furter coz I think it's an open source piece of furninure. No complicated sleeves or shapes, it's about the principle. So the shape you see here is just one way of executing this thought bit can even be more simplified.
I pitched it to Ikea, because I really believe, that it is an ultimate solution for people that move a lot, students, etc. They weren't interested.
Also, kinda based on the same principle, is the kids furniture of the ladies Jet, named Jet4Kids, check http://www.jetsit.nl/

During the International Furnitre Show in Milan from 5-10 April 2006 Marcel Kampman introduced 'A+B', a new piece of modular furniture for a modern way of life. What makes the design of this piece furniture exceptional is its unique approach towards what furniture is, or what it can be, disregarding all common rules for furniture design. It can be a shelf system to place your books in, in any height or width required. But with your added creativity it could be a base for a table too. You decide.
Example
A + A + B + B + A + A + B + A + A + B + A + A + B = a 5 stories high library.
It's a solution for a lot of people, like for instant students, people that move a lot, people with an ever-expanding library and even guerilla stores. It can be produced in any finishing, it's smart, it's extremely flexible (you can even use it on attics with slanted ceilings), it's portable, it has design value, it's sturdy, it needs no construction manuals or tools and it's endlessly expandable.
Use your imagination!
A+B is a system open to your creativity. You can build a solution for your books from it in any height of width you require. When a shelf has a too heavy load, just add another A to give the construction more strength. You can even use A+B with slanted walls, like on an attic. You can create a chair, a bench or even a table. You can make prints on the side of A to make the construction blend into your interiour. Use your imagination!

We have seen this type of furniture before, but it was not from IKEA it was way more expensive...
in my line of work we see new furniture every day
