Online photo sharing platforms may enable users to share their snaps with people around the world, but the prime spot for a beautiful photo remains on the living room wall. Looking to help consumers get their photos out of the iPhone and into the home, Wundershine has developed a digital framing system which removes many of the hurdles associated with digital photo printing, and enables users to continually update their walls.

The Wundershine system is comprised of a smart picture frame and a mobile app. When signing up, users can choose whether they would like to purchase the Reframe or the Makerframe. Both options are made from eco-friendly oak wood, come in three finishes and house standardized 23 cm X 23cm prints. Users then create a picture queue via the smartphone app, which can include photos from their digital camera as well as images created and stored on apps including Instagram, Facebook and Flickr.

Unlike the the Reframe, the Makerframe has a built in printer which enables users to print images themselves. They simply insert a blank thermal color printing sheet into the top of the frame and send the desired image to the smart frame, from their queue, wirelessly. The finished product is automatically fed into the framed space. Old prints are deposited out of the bottom and can be stored in one of colorful cardboard boxes provided. The frame is cordless and doesn’t need to be removed from the wall. Users can crop and resize prints or make grid collages using provided templates, and they can even choose art prints from the curated E-print store. The Reframe uses the same specifications and simplified framing but is not print or network enabled — instead, users order prints from their queue, via Wundershine, which costs USD 2.00 per print.

Both frames are currently available for pre-order at reduced prices. A Reframe costs USD 59.95 — it comes with ten free prints and will be shipped in the fall of 2015. The Makerframe costs USD 179.95 and Wundershine expect to begin shipping them in early 2016. The products are a more visually attractive prospect than LCD digital photo frames and remove the hassle of cutting and mounting associated with home framing and the high cost of professional framing. Are there variations of this product which could widen its appeal?
