The virtues of the power nap have long been extolled, and we’ve seen several efforts dedicated to enabling such restorative diversions. Now joining the ranks of the sleep pod, the nap hotel and the sleep salon, however, is the Ostrich, a wearable pillow that helps workers catch up on some rest without even leaving their desks.
The brainchild of Madrid-based design studio Kawamura-Ganjavian, the Ostrich is what its creators call a “pocket pillow” designed to help today’s always-on workers check out for a few minutes to recharge their proverbial batteries. Similar in many ways to a sleeping bag for the head, the innovation is “neither a pillow nor a cushion, nor a bed, nor a garment, but a bit of each at the same time,” Kawamura-Ganjavian explains. “Its soothing cave-like interior shelters and isolates our head and hands (mind, senses and body) for a few minutes, without needing to leave our desk.”
No word yet from Kawamura-Ganjavian on pricing or retail plans, but there’s no denying the concept has a certain appeal. One to partner with for the sleep-deprived working masses in your neck of the woods?
