What do you get when you cross online classified ads with web-based video? Realpeoplerealstuff.com is equal parts Craigslist and YouTube—a whole new way for customers to reach out to one another to sell their used appliances, automobiles, collectibles, concert tickets and countless other goods and services. “Realpeoplerealstuff.com combines the hottest internet trends in one, easy-to-use site: e-commerce, snarky writing, funny videos, everyone's desire to be a star and video sharing.”

With a few clicks of a mouse, customers can upload their own video commercials, recorded on their camcorders, webcams, digital cameras or cameraphones. Ads are organized by category and location, and users can enter text descriptions, prices, thumbnail photos and tags along with their video clips. For best results, users are encouraged to engage their personality, creativity and sense of humour when filming their commercials. And who knows? One may well turn out to be the next average Joe or Jane launched into internet stardom. The service is entirely free—for now at least, though there may come a day when, like Craigslist, modest charges apply to select portions.

Realpeoplerealstuff.com improves on two of the top trends on the internet—videos and classified ads—by combining them. And it's a smart new use of personal video, especially considering the number of people who are growing accustomed to using their cellphones or digicams to create and upload their own videos. With classifieds, videos obviously a useful extra layer of information, especially when it comes to renting apartments or selling cars and other large items. Definitely one to start up locally. Comments on this idea:

I presume the revenue comes from on-site advertising? But it could be good fun to look at even when you don't want to buy anything, so I can see it getting a lot of traffic.

usually its free to upload and view but if you want to contact somebody you pay for that information

Aha! That makes sense. thanks Soren.

keep it free, and it's awesome!

It is just pushing it. Youtube concept wont be applied easily to every craigslist item. And HEY, if you want to sell something, you can always put it on youtube. So not only it is not an original idea but it is not thought well either. Lets do Ebay + Youtube..

Come on!

I really like the concept, but understand some of the points raised. I think the point raised about selling something on YouTube is valid, but you have to understand that YouTube was never intended for that and i'm not sure it's something that they will ever explore. I think the next step for people selling via the likes of eBay is to create online virtual showrooms with sales staff and allow other customers to browse at the same time - kind of like a Second Life meets eBay. This really has the potential to fully engage the consumer and make the product feel more tangible.

It was done in here - http://www.mybidlist.com/i=30

here

This is silly. Takes long enough to create an ad with photos and deal with the flakes on craigslist. This makes more sense for other areas (see services/erotic)...

Wow.. thanks for forgetting the state of NH.. good way to not get people involved.. just leave the whole state out. I guess we must not have any interest in selling things here.. *rolls eyes*.

@ John Patterson - it says: "Don't see your city? You will after you post an ad!"

*rolls eyes*

Take a look at www.imoondo.com it's a pure video only classifieds. You'll find personal video ads, for sale services etc all video. In the next week we are also adding some very cool features that will make it even easier to post a video.

what a coincidence (your recent post) i just bought a craigslist posting tool at http://www.craygo.com

Since I don't want to repeat myself saying what was already said in this thread, let the videos speak for itself:

http://www.imoondo.com/play/938 Irish Tenor Banjo
http://www.imoondo.com/play/275 Singing Bowl for sale
http://www.imoondo.com/play/356 Botique Fabulous

Take a look at www.adhysteria.com it's got video only classifieds as well as text classifieds. You'll find personal video ads, for sale services etc all video. Its all integrated very neatly with google maps.

Listasaurus.com also has video classifieds, as well as text. But they take it a step further for something new--they PAY users to list their ads! Even if you don't include a video (you have to include at least a photo though).

Also says on their site they will be adding auctions soon, so there's the ebay meets youtube concept.

:-)

Check it out at Listasaurus.com

Dear Soren:
Don't know how I missed this before, but it doesn't cost anything to contact someone on realpeoplerealstuff.com.

I'm looking for someone to teach me web 2.0.

Thanks

As everyone knows by now, video is very exciting. I think in the next few years people will discover that video is appropriate for certain areas of the consumer market, right now it seems like everyone wants to use video for everything. I think the small business arena will benefit the most from video which is pretty much the thesis behind Jippidy.com
