Simplicity & selling wine | Update

Retail Published on 9 May 2006 in Retail

A quick update on last month's Simplicity & selling wine: a reader notified us that a similarly simplified approach to wine has worked very well for Best Cellars in the United States, which got started in 1997.

Dutch Grapedistrict (featured in our previous post), was clearly inspired by Best Cellars, which also uses colour-coded categories and agreeable prices to make wine buying more customer-friendly. Best Cellars has seven stores in Massachusetts, New York, Texas, D.C. and Virginia, sells wine online, and was appointed as the airline industry's first 'low-fare sommelier' by JetBlue, which serves a selection of Best Cellars wines on board its flights.
