Service notifies travelers of likely flight delays, recommends alternatives

Travel & Tourism

KnowDelay uses weather forecasts to predict if flights will be cancelled so that fliers have the chance to rearrange their route.

One way to avoid delays on commercial flights is to fly by private jet instead – something that Social Flights has been trying to enable the average traveler to do through its plane-sharing service. Another method – now being offered by KnowDelay – is to use weather forecasts to predict if flights will be cancelled so that fliers have the chance to rearrange their route. According to the company, US Department of Transportation figures show that around half of all flight delays are due to weather problems, which can leave passengers stranded or late for appointments. Those traveling by plane can register to have their flights tracked by KnowDelay, which sends a notification three days in advance of departure if there is likely to be a disruption to their trip. Last-minute bookers can also use the service to check if their desired route is possible before making a payment. Customers can then either arrange with their airline to take one of the alternative routes recommended by the site, or push back their planned activity at their destination. The video below offers more information about how the service works: KnowDelay promises to be 90 percent accurate with its information and currently covers 35 airports across the US. How else can travelers be kept more informed to minimize stress? Spotted by: Murray Orange
