Traveling with young kids is a perennial challenge for parents around the globe, and it’s already inspired innovations such as the TrayKit backpack we covered in 2010. Now offering another approach altogether, Nanny in the Clouds is a Californian service that matches parents traveling with young kids with registered babysitters already booked on the same flight. Experienced babysitters begin by signing up with Nanny in the Clouds, providing at least two verifiable references. Then they can list upcoming flights they’ll be taking on which they’re willing to serve as a babysitter in exchange for some extra cash. Parents planning a trip, meanwhile, can search for registered nannies on their flight; it costs USD 10 to get matched with a nanny, or they can buy an annual subscription for USD 50. Either way, hourly rates and expectations for the nanny are negotiated individually once parents find a good match. It’s then up to parents to contact the airline to arrange for their new nanny to sit with them. Also in the last few months we’ve seen the launch of a babysitting service at a Netherlands theater.
