Shoe company offers exposure for artists while helping kids in need

Chicago-based BucketFeet sells shoes featuring the work of a variety of artists and then donates a portion of the proceeds toward children in need.

We’ve seen footwear companies that aim to help the poor and we’ve seen companies that offer exposure to little-known artists from around the world. Combining a bit of both concepts, Chicago-based BucketFeet sells shoes featuring the work of a variety of artists and then donates a portion of the proceeds toward children in need. Seven unisex canvas sneaker designs are currently for sale on BucketFeet, all of them featuring the colorful artwork of company founder Aaron Firestein. Soon to be added to the company’s line, however, are versions featuring the work of some 20 additional artists from around the world. The company explains: “We want to collaborate with artists from around the globe, from every spectrum of society, and give them a canvas to exhibit their art and share their perspectives with our consumers and fans.” As part of the company’s focus on children, meanwhile, BucketFeet donates 5 percent of every sale to support children through art, music and sports. Toward that end, MAGIC, love.futbol and Children Mending Hearts are its official partners, and customers can choose which they’d like their purchase to support. In this generous era, it’s no longer uncommon to see companies undertaking a single socially minded effort; BucketFeet’s double social mission, however, takes that generosity a step further.
