After we wrote about Pink Ladies, a British taxi service for women, a reader alerted us to Canadian Driving Miss Daisy.

Driving Miss Daisy is a cab and companion service for senior citizens, that takes them shopping, to doctor's appointments, social events, etc. The company prides itself on providing extra care and security to its elderly customers, at affordable prices. Driving Miss Daisy currently has seven cars in Edmonton, Calgary, and is looking to expand to other cities.

Aging (and relatively well-off) populations in most of Europe and North-America are creating ample opportunities for products and services aimed at making older consumers' lives easier. Particulary for those that allow them to remain independent. While non-profit, goverment-subsidized transportation services are fairly wide-spread, they usually can't offer the extra time and convenience that a commercial service can.

Driving services should work particularly well if marketed not only to senior customers, but also to their (busy) children, who don't always have enough time to help out their parents as much as they would like. A rewarding business idea for caring entrepreneurs!

Interesting ~ I am the founder/president of the Driving Miss Daisy Corporation and was alerted to the fact that my information was included in
Springwise and I have had several emails and inquiries. I just wanted to advise you that my website is currently being updated and much of the information on my original site is outdated. I have sold 11 franchises in and around the City of Edmonton and have 17 operational vehicles on fleet. Tara Youngson has joined forces with me and has received clearance to commence franchise sales in British Columbia. I will be joining her in Vancouver the first week in July to proceed with sales.

I am interested in starting a similar business. I am just baffled at the steps I need to take in order to persue this endeaver. Any tips?

My boyfriend and I are wanting to start up a transportation service for patients going to dr appointments and dialysis treatments, can you assist me with any tips you may have on getting this started? Thanks in advance

1. I would like to know how much you charge for the transportation and the companion. If this a package or you charge separately?

2. Do you have vehicles for handicap persons?

3. Do you have specific personal qualification for the companion?

I am very interested in this type of business and I would like to understand the service to see if it viable
Thanks

I would like to start a business to take elderly and handicap people to dr appts. and dialysis treatments. I live in a rural area and this would be a great business. Many relatives do not have the time to take them. How much is charged and how do you go about getting started.
