The Dating Ring is enabling long distance dating by flying single New York women across the country to meet San Francisco men.
Dating isn’t the easiest thing in the world, and it’s made more difficult when there’s a gender imbalance in the city. In New York City, there are 100,000 more women of dating age, and in San Francisco, there are 40,000 more men than women. To solve this problem, matchmaking service The Dating Ring is helping the two groups out by flying single New York women across the country for long distance dating.
The NY-based startup has already put a twist on the dating format by getting its members to go on group dates with mutual matches, rather than picking individuals themselves, in order to create a more relaxed way of getting to know new people. Now, the company has used Crowdtilt to enable members to fund their place on a plane to San Francisco. After reaching its USD 10,000 target, a group of women will now fly across the country for a four-day trip, including three dates and several parties to help them potentially find love. Bay Area men who contributed to the campaign will gain entry to the parties, as well as receive a date coaching Skype session to prepare for a long distance relationship. Unfortunately, a reverse campaign to send men to NY didn’t reach its target. The video below explains a bit more about the project:
The Dating Ring matches the romance of travel with the possibility of finding life-changing love, something that other, slightly more controversial dating platforms have also attempted to do in the past. Are there other ways to connect potential couples in different cities that otherwise might not meet?
