Home sharing service for empty nesters and baby boomers

Work & Lifestyle

A roommate matching service that helps people with a spare room safely, securely and easily find a compatible housemate.

Built specifically with empty nesters in mind, Silvernest uses its proprietary matching tool to find perfect housemates. Everything from background checks to rent collection and alternative lease agreements can be managed through the Silvernest site. The founders of the company see Silvernest as an important aspect of independent aging. By helping homeowners and other independent seniors remain in their own home, housemates provide companionship, friendship, extra income and, when needed, additional support.

Profiles are free to set up for anyone offering space to rent, with a charge of USD 29.99 for a 90-day service. Once the fee has been paid, homeowners can communicate with their potential matches. Housemates are charged the cost of the background check. Potential housemates can search available rooms by location, price and other filters that include a private entrance and whether or not pets are allowed.

As the general population grows older, aging in place is an increasingly popular choice for senior citizens. From employing experienced retirees to using a smart scheduler that sends reminders to take regular medications, projects covering almost all aspects of life are making aging easier and more enjoyable. Where else in the aging process could technology make a difference?
