The rise of 3D film and TV has been a major breakthrough for directors, but the fact remains that when watching video, viewers typically have no control over the perspectives and angles they get to see. Now, software startup Condition One hopes to change that with technology that lets anyone use existing cameras to create 180-degree pannable movies for the iPad. New York-based Condition One’s embeddable immersive video player can be integrated into an existing iPad/iPhone app or built as a standalone app. Either way, the software offers a virtual window through which viewers get unlimited perspectives on a single video. No special hardware is required on the part of the filmmaker, and standard software packages can be used for video editing. Once uploaded into the Condition One video player, however, footage can be viewed from multiple angles and perspectives as users interact with their device to pan, tilt and “look around” within the scene, relying on the hardware’s gyroscopes and accelerometers to make that happen.
